Church of the Holy Sacrifice in UP Diliman: A National Treasure

Great universities also cater to the spiritual needs of its academic community. At the University of the Philippines Diliman, they have the Church of the Holy Sacrifice which is a spiritual haven for students, professors, administrators, support staffs, and visitors to the university.

The church is unique not only for its eccentric external form which some says resembles a saucer, but also for its treasured contents which are crafts of several National Artists of the Philippines.

The architectural design of the church was made by Leandro V. Locsin, a Philippine National Artist and the construction was undertaken by David M. Consunji with Felisberto Reyes as Project Manager. The thin-shell dome was executed by Alfredo L. Junio, the water system by Lamberto Un Ocampo and the electrical system by Jose M. Segovia and Agapito S. Pineda.

A weary soul can find solace in this haven of peace. It is a great place for reflection and discernment which are important activities for intellectual nourishment especially in academic setting.

The Church of the Holy Sacrifice serves a noble purpose and is loyal to its spiritual mandate as experienced by so many who have visited or prayed there.
