In Honor of San Pedro Calungsod

San Pedro Calungsod being a son of Cebu, particularly from Ginatilan in the southern part of the province, is being honored by these two popular shrines in the land of his birth.

The first one is the Archdiocesan Shrine of San Pedro Calungsod located inside the Archbishop's Palace compound. The shrine is  very beautiful and it is a popular venue for wedding ceremonies.

Beneath the altar table, there is a box of sand gathered from the beaches of Tumhon in Guam where San Pedro Calungsod was martyred. It serves as a relic of San Pedro's martyrdom because his mortal remains was thrown in the sea together with that of Blessed Diego Luis de San Vitores.

The shrine also keeps the statue of San Pedro Calungsod used during his canonization at Saint Peter's Square in the Vatican. After the canonization rites, this statue was brought home to the Philippines and visited various dioceses throughout the country.

The second edifice which honors the saint is the San Pedro Calungsod Chapel located across SM Seaside City at South Road Properties.

The chapel is also exquisite and modernist in style. It is larger than the Archdiocesan Shrine and also a popular venue for wedding ceremonies.

We should really accord great honor to San Pedro Calungsod  for his value of loyalty unto death. He only shows that true loyalty to God reaps great reward.
